Armed robbers shoot, kill security guard in Oakland

OAKLAND, CA

It happened during a robbery attempt at an auto parts store. The victim was filling in for a sick co-worker. According to the San Moritz Security Company there was an attempted robbery at the Auto Zone store on International Boulevard at around 7 p.m.

"There was an attempted robbery. They shot the security officer and stole his weapon," explained Moritz Security manager Michael Merritt.

Police would not comment on the investigation, but Merritt says the 55-year-old guard who was pronounced dead at Eden Hospital was shot three times and was not wearing a vest. Police have issued a "Be on the Lookout" for two men believed to be about 25-years-old.

Merritt now faces an unpleasant task.

"Trying to contact the family and get more information from the hospital and the police as to what happened, see what we can do to move forward," he said.

Oakland police would not say whether or not the suspects got away with any money. They also have not issued any description of the suspects they are looking for except to say they are armed.
