Berkeley officers hand out food to needy

Berkeley police took some time off from crime fighting to hand out food to the needy on Wednesday.

Officers bagged up 250 dinners in the morning as a part of the department's annual holiday food drive.

Each bag contains a turkey and enough food to feed about eight people. The groceries will go to families nominated by the officers.

It is all paid for by donations raised during their annual "turkey ride" which, this year, took them on a 200-mile bike ride from Berkeley to Cambria.
