Protestors seek protection for wild horses

SAN FRANCISCO

They are upset about a plan to round up 2,500 mustangs in the Calico Mountains in northwest Nevada.

It is one of the largest roundups ever.

The federal government says the plan is necessary to protect the horses' rapidly deteriorating rangeland and will prevent them from having to kill any of the animals.

But protesters call the roundup inhumane and have filed a lawsuit to try to stop it.
