Port of Oakland grants truckers extension

The Port of Oakland has granted truckers an extension on meeting the new state clean-air deadline, meaning they will not go on strike Monday, as threatened.

The truckers met with officials at city hall yesterday to talk about the deadline, which would force them to pay thousands of dollars to retrofit their rigs with new filters.

The state ran out of grant money to help them pay for the retrofit.

The extension is a direct result of yesterday's meeting, and a formal announcement will be made tomorrow.
