Rare Franciscan Manzanita finds new home

SAN FRANCISCO

The Franciscan Manzanita was thought to be extinct in the wild, but a single specimen was found in October.

The plant was growing in the path of the Doyle Drive replacement project, though and construction crews said their project could not be re-routed around it.

This weekend, Presidio park rangers replanted it in a secret spot.

It was quite an ordeal -- the plant weighs about 25,000 pounds.
