CA governor's race to break spending records

SACRAMENTO, CA

Republican candidate Meg Whitman has already spent $27 million just in the first 11 weeks of the year. Most of that was spent on TV ads introducing the former eBay CEO to voters and attacking her "opponent for the nomination," Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner.

Her camp says they are seeing results. A new field poll has Whitman ahead of Poizner by nearly 50 points.

On the Democrat side, Attorney General Jerry Brown is not facing any serious opposition for the nomination.
