83-year-old arrested after gun fires at gym in Concord

CONCORD, CA

At about 6 p.m. tonight, police responded to a report that a shot was fired into a wall, Concord police Lt. Steve Dyer said.

Police were told that the suspect, described as an elderly Asian man, left the fitness center. Officers arrived and found Howard Ralph Adams, a Concord resident, sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot outside the mall, Dyer said.

Adams had a pistol inside his gym bag that accidentally fired a shot into the wall of the men's locker room at the gym, according to Dyer.

Officers found the pistol inside the vehicle and arrested Adams on suspicion of willful discharge of a firearm in a negligent manner, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, and carrying a loaded firearm in public, Dyer said.
