Menlo Park, Palo Alto approve tax increases

Voters in Menlo Park and Palo Alto have overwhelmingly approved parcel tax increases in a mail-in election.

Those new taxes will provide additional funds for their school districts.

Preliminary results from Tuesday night's vote show that 79 percent of voters approved Palo Alto's Measure A. It will add another $96 to homeowner's tax bill bringing it to $589 dollars a year.

76 percent of voters approved Menlo Park's Measure C" increasing homeowners' bills by $178 dollars, bringing their annual tax bill to $743.

Both parcel tax measures needed a two-thirds majority to pass.
