Police have launched an internal investigation into the fatal shooting of a deer last month in the backyard of an east Oakland home.

The incident was captured on videotape, leading to dozens of complaints.

A police officer, a sergeant, and an animal control supervisor are all under investigation over whether they followed department policy regarding the proper handling of an animal they thought was injured.

All three will be allowed to continue working during the investigation.
