Cause of 2009 Loma Fire determined

Firefighters themselves accidentally started a wildfire that burned nearly 500 acres last October along the Santa Clara, Santa Cruz county line.

CALFIRE crews were burning brush to 'prevent' wildfires when an ember blew away. It simmered for nine days before the fire erupted.

The fire destroyed or damaged a mobile home, seven outbuildings, four recreational vehicles and a car. It cost more than $1.4 million to control.
