Bay Area Memorial Day Events

Start of Blue Star museums, in which more than 600 museums across the United States offer free admission to all active duty military personnel until Labor Day.

10 a.m. Memorial Day service at Union Cemetery in Redwood City. Union Cemetery, Woodside Road, just east of El Camino Real, Redwood City.

10 a.m. Memorial Day ceremony, with a special emphasis on those who served during the Korean War. Gazebo, Civic Park, North Broadway and Civic Drive, Walnut Creek

10:30 a.m. The 142nd San Francisco Memorial Day ceremony. The event begins with a parade of veterans. Guests include San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, members of the board of supervisors, Rep. Jackie Speier, d-San Mateo/San Francisco, Sen. Leland Yee, D-San Francisco, and others.

Starts at Main Post parade ground, San Francisco Presidio, Montgomery Street and Sheridan Avenue; continues top the cemetery at 1 Lincoln Blvd. For an 11 a.m. ceremony, San Francisco.

11 a.m. 107th annual Memorial Day program at Lone Tree Cemetery, 24591 Fairview Ave., Hayward

11 a.m. Alameda Veterans Memorial Park, Foot of Bay Farm Island Bridge, across from the Chuck Corica Golf Course Gold Course, Alameda speakers include Alameda Mayor Beverly Johnson and Capt. Charley Diaz of the U.S. Coast Guard.

11 a.m. St. Mary's cemetery, 4529 Howe St., Oakland

11 a.m. Evergreen cemetery, 6450 Camden St., Oakland

Noon Holy Sepulcher cemetery, 26239 Mission Blvd., Hayward.

1:30 p.m. Chapel of the Chimes, 33992 Mission Blvd., Hayward.

1 p.m. Memorial Day ceremony aboard the USS Hornet Aircraft Carrier Museum. USS Hornet, 707 W. Hornet Ave., Pier 3, Alameda.

1 p.m. Rep. John Garamendi, D-Walnut Creek, will attend a Memorial Day ceremony at the Contra Costa County Veterans Monument. Contra Costa Boulevard and Boyd Road, Pleasant Hill

2 p.m. Memorial Day ceremony at Point Reyes National Seashore. Cemetery, near Drakes Estero, off Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, Point Reyes.
