Van, slow-moving train crash in San Jose

SAN JOSE, CA

The crash occurred at about 8:10 a.m. at the intersection of Old Bayshore Highway and North Tenth Street, fire Capt. Chuck Rangel said.

A Union Pacific train going about 2 mph struck the front end of a transport van carrying 20 to 30 passengers, Rangel said.

Rangel said the circumstances of the crash were unclear, but that the van was stationary at the time of the crash.

One person complained of injuries, but declined transport to a hospital, he said.

A Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority bus transported the passengers to their destination in Milpitas.

The passengers are members of a senior community, Rangel said.

The front end of the van was damaged in the crash, Rangel said.
