Two Bay Area agencies have received major grants from the federal government for job training.

The Peralta Community College District will get nearly $3 million to expand its programs and train students for jobs in green construction and energy management.

The San Mateo County Human Services Agency will get more than $2.5 million to train people for jobs in the energy efficiency industry.

The Labor Department chose these agencies in a national competition that attracted 300 applicants.
