Oakland track star wins national Gatorade award

OAKLAND, CA

She came in first out of 457,000 track and field athletes nationwide.

"The Olympics is my dream because I run track all my life and I believe that with my coach Curtis and Coach Dean, I can get there, so that's my goal," said Purvis.

"She's run against the best. She's already run against college runners and beat them. And the way her mental toughness is, there's nobody around like her," said St. Elizabeth athletic director Bob Howard.

Purvis also wants to attend the University of Miami with a major in business and management.
