Tauscher gave up her seat in Congress and is now a top official in the State Department.
In a memo obtained Tuesday by Foreign Policy magazine, Tauscher tells her staff, "There will be some tough times ahead, but I intend to come in to work as much as I can, and work from home when I can't. This period will not be an easy one."
Tauscher is suffering from esophageal cancer, which she says is in its early stages, and is being treated aggressively.
