Governor held budget forum in Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, CA

The governor held a budget forum at the San Francisco 49ers headquarters in Santa Clara.

He told Bay Area business leaders that he agrees with legislative leaders on all but about $4 billion to close the $19 billion budget gap. Still, those billions are the most contentious part of the budget process.

"I cannot tell you for sure that yes we are going to lick this problem in the next two weeks. I have a feeling that both parties want to get this done as soon as possible," said Schwarzenegger.

Democrats are looking for additional tax revenues while Republicans want cuts in services.

The next step is likely to be closed-door meetings between the governor and legislative leaders, but many think those Big Five meetings could go on for weeks.
