Co-defendant to face trial for courthouse fire

VALLEJO, CA

District Attorney David Paulson says that Octavia Walton's death will not impede the arson case against Benjamin Stickel.

No trial date has been set for Stickel, who has pleaded not guilty to the arson charge.

Stickel and Walton were accused of throwing an incendiary device through a ground-floor window of the Vallejo courthouse in June. The blaze destroyed hundreds of criminal case records and caused about $1 million in damage. No one was hurt.

Paulson says Walton instigated the arson while facing prosecution on two drug charges.

Paulson says Stickel's case isn't any stronger or weaker after Walton hanged herself in jail Sunday.
