Car flips during Hayward police chase

HAYWARD, CA

It all happened Monday in Hayward when the CHP tried to pull over the driver of a SUV for talking on his cell phone.

Instead of stopping the driver took off, up A Street, crossed Foothill Boulevard, crashed into two cars and eventually flipped over.

The driver and passenger ran away and that is when an all out search started. Police and K-9 units scoured homes and backyards for several blocks in every direction.

After about 20 minutes, the dogs found the car's driver hiding in a shed. The search for the passenger has been called off.

Police found a gun inside the driver's smashed car.

A woman and her child were in one of those cars that was hit by the driver; they were taken to the hospital, but are expected to be OK.
