SF supervisors to vote on alcohol tax

SAN FRANCISCO

Liquor distributors, wholesalers, brew pubs and winemakers would be required to pay an extra 35 cents per gallon of beer they sell.

The fee would be $1 for a gallon of wine and $3.20 per gallon of hard liquor.

Supports say it would raise $16 million a year to reimburse the city for medical care, drunk driving arrests, treatment programs and other alcohol related services.

Mayor Gavin Newsom has threatened a veto.
