2 dead, 2 injured in shooting at San Leandro golf club

SAN LEANDRO

Police received multiple calls about shots fired at 13800 Monarch Bay Drive near Fairway Drive around 10 p.m. Saturday, police spokesman Lt. Christopher Tankson said. The shooting allegedly took place on the dance floor of a restaurant the golf course rents out for events, he said.

The manager of the restaurant said individuals who claimed to be throwing a birthday party for college-aged people had rented out the facility, Tankson said, but neither police nor the manager could confirm the nature of the event.

Units responding to the golf course found three victims suffering from gunshot wounds at the scene, Tankson said. All three of those people were taken to Eden Hospital in Castro Valley, he said.

One of the victims, who had received CPR from police at the crime scene, was pronounced dead at the hospital, Tankson said. The other two injured victims are believed to have wounds that are not life threatening, he said.

Police also discovered a fourth victim from the shooting had been taken to San Leandro Hospital by friends, Tankson said. That victim also died at the hospital from gunshot wounds sustained in the ordeal, he said.

The victim's ages and locations of residence were not immediately available this morning. Tankson said units were still at the scene of the crime investigating as of 3 a.m. today.

Alameda County Sheriff's deputies assisted at the "chaotic scene" of the party, Tankson said, where people were rapidly fleeing just as police were arriving.

Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to call the San Leandro Police Department at (510) 577-3201.
