The city of Fremont will allow the Catholic Church to move forward with a housing development on the site of an old cemetery.

The city council voted unanimously Tuesday night for the project to continue.

The church has already re-located the remains of more than 200 people from the old Saint Joseph's cemetery to a nearby field to clear space for the 16 new houses.

Opponents worry bodies still remain buried beneath the site.

City staff will now review the architectural designs.

The new homes may go on the market by 2012.
