Santa Clara release 49er escort costs

On Monday, the city of Santa Clara revealed how much it paid to provide police escorts for the San Francisco 49ers.

The city says it cost $18,200 to escort the 49ers from their training facility to games in San Francisco and Oakland between 2007 to the present.

Last month, a group that opposes the 49ers stadium project accused the city of raiding the general fund to pay for them.

The group, Santa Clara Plays Fair, now questions whether the $18,000 figure is accurate. Both the 49ers and Santa Clara leaders say the team fully intends to re-pay the costs of the police escorts.
