VTA to launch 90 new hybrid buses

SANTA CLARA, Calif.

The agency plans to roll out the low-emission, diesel electric hybrid bus fleet on Monday, offering riders comfort and accessibility and helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The new buses will replace older buses that have exceeded their life span.

Funding for the buses was provided by a $53.4 million federal grant. An additional $5.3 million of state Proposition 1B funds was used to purchase the hybrid buses.

Among the guests at a news conference today to announce the launch will be U.S. Reps. Mike Honda and Zoe Lofgren, Silicon Valley Leadership Group president Carl Guardino, and San Jose Councilman Sam Liccardo.

The event will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the Santa Clara Convention Center.
