AC Transit cuts bus service by about 7 percent

OAKLAND, Calif.

On Sunday AC Transit cut service for the second time this year to balance its budget -- it decreased bus service by nearly 8 percent in March -- which will reduce frequency on 28 routes and remove two destinations.

AC Transit, which serves an area from west Contra Costa County to southern Alameda County, expects to save $11.4 from the cuts on Sunday. The March cuts saved about $10 million more.

The lines removed from service served Oakland's Broadway Terrace area and the Orinda BART Station

The transit district's board of directors voted to trim service even further on Dec. 19, when half of AC Transit's weekend service is cut along with four all-night buses.
