According the San Francisco Examiner, some commuters are getting $36 tickets for turning around during the November 11 standoff on the Bay Bridge.
The CHP was turning drivers around just past the toll plaza. /*FasTrak*/, which electronically records all vehicles, recorded some of them as toll cheats.
The turnaround was ordered after Craig Carlos-Valentino, 52, of Antioch, had parked his vehicle on the upper deck. He said he had explosives and his daughter was with him. Nobody was hurt and traffic resumed later. He has been charged with felony kidnapping and making a false bomb threat, among other charges. He will be in court next week.
The number of tickets being sent out is unknown. The Metropolitan Transportation Commission is admitting it was a mistake. They are encouraging anyone who was ticketed to contest the ticket and the charge will be waived.
