FCC considers new rules on cell phone charges

The Federal Communications Commission is now considering new rules to prevent cell phone users from amassing extra charges.

The new rules are specifically meant to offer customers a better warning if they are about to exceed their plan's usage limits. The proposal would require all wireless carriers to send customers a voice or text alert when they are about to exceed their voice, data or text limits.

Many users have complained that there is no warning when they are nearing their limit. The rules could be approved by early next year.
