A crime-prevention program that offers monetary rewards in unsolved cases has been extremely successful in solving crimes in Oakland.

The Crime Stoppers program has resulted in hundreds of arrests over the past twenty years. The Oakland Tribune says crime stoppers helped solve 79 cases this year up from 62 last year

The reward amount is determined by the Crime Stoppers board a five-member panel of unpaid Oakland residents.
