Auto burglaries increasing in Palo Alto

PALO ALTO, Calif.

The targets are parked vehicles in the Stanford Shopping Center parking lots and parking lots affiliated with restaurants along the El Camino Real corridor, police officials said.

Vehicles that have GPS units and laptops in plain view are the usual targets, according to police.

The spike in burglaries has occurred over the last two months, according to police. The burglaries are happening daily, both during the day and at night.

Residents are advised to lock and secure their vehicles, and also to remove valuable items from their cars or hide them out of sight.
