An art contest for kids has drawn Google into a big controversy about privacy. The contest was for kids to design a new doodle for the Google home page.

The company initially asked parents to provide the last four digits of their children's social security numbers to prevent cheating. But some critics questioned whether the search site was overstepping privacy boundaries.

Google dropped the request last week.
