New car crash tests released

WASHINGTON

When the rear impact guard on this truck fails the car and the driver slide under the trailer and in some cases can be deadly, and in an under ride crash, drivers have been decapitated.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety says the government standard for rear guards should be be strengthened.

"We think it's clear they are not working fine. These crashes doesn't have to be deaths or serious injuries," Adrian Lund from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety said.

There is wide spread agreement something should be done, but coming up with a new standard will not be easy. The last one took 20 years.
