Drug making chemicals and a suspected explosive device were discovered by sheriff's deputies Wednesday when they tried to evict a tenant in Santa Clara.

The discovery, made just after 11 a.m., forced the evacuation of several units at the Timberleaf Apartments on Newhall Street.

The chemicals found are often used to make methamphetamine, according to police.

The bomb squad responded to remove the explosive device, but deputies never did locate the tenant who faced eviction.
