Investigators say the officer was out of his car on northbound I-880 near the Bascom exit and was assisting a driver, who had crashed possibly because of ice on the road, when a driver in a white sedan hit the officer with his car.
The officer has been taken to a nearby hospital and is believed to have a broken leg.
The driver who hit the officer has been taken into custody, but there is no word yet on what charges he's facing.
