The pair was seen entering a parked car in the 3500 block of Hillcrest Drive at about 4 a.m., according to police.
When officers arrived, they saw a vehicle being driven away from the scene. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to yield and a two- to five-minute chase ensued, Belmont police Capt. Dan DeSmidt said.
The pursuit ended in a nearby residential neighborhood in San Carlos when the driver lost control and crashed into a front yard.
Montara resident Travis Castellanos, 21, and Pacifica resident Danielle Gonzalez, 19, the driver and passenger, were caught and taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries they suffered in the crash.
No one else was injured in the pursuit, DeSmidt said.
Castellanos and Gonzalez were booked into San Mateo County Jail this morning for violating parole and probation terms, and charges of evading police, possessing stolen property, theft and criminal conspiracy are expected to be added, DeSmidt said.
DeSmidt said Castellanos and Gonzalez may have been involved in several other auto burglaries in Belmont this week.
