Committee votes on Treasure Island affordable housing

A coalition of affordable housing and labor groups rallied outside of City Hall. They want to see the amount of affordable housing increased from 25 to 30 percent of the 8,000 homes being built.

"The full 2,400 units will go to families, seniors, veterans and our working class here in San Francisco," said San Francisco Supervisor Jane Kim.

"This is one wonderful collaborative way to move forward to create jobs here in San Francisco as well as setting up a wonderful infrastructure," said Tim Paulson with the San Francisco Labor Council.

Some of the affordable housing will be set aside for formerly homeless families and individuals. State lawmakers still need to approve the revision of Treasure Island's master plan.
