Man arrested after stolen 1911 automobile found

BETHEL ISLAND, Calif.

The Everitt-Metzger-Flanders, or EMF, carriage was stolen from an automobile cargo carrier in Pittsburg in Dec. 2010, CHP officials said.

The victim informed the CHP that someone was attempting to sell the EMF in the Bethel Island area. An undercover operation was conducted and the vehicle was recovered, CHP officials said.

Officers arrested 50-year-old Gary Ray Smith in the 1900 block of Taylor Road at around 4 p.m., according to the CHP.

The EMF had allegedly been stripped of unique brass parts, including large headlamps, windshield trim, and a double twisted horn. A unique red hood was also missing, CHP officials said.

Anyone with information regarding the missing parts is asked to call (925)646-4980.
