Volunteers spotted the red-crested tree rat on May 4 at a nature preserve in Colombia. The rodent is covered in reddish hair. It is about the size of a guinea pig. The mysterious species hasn't been seen since 1898.
The volunteers snapped a few photos before the rat retreated into the forest.
