Call for fireworks ban near San Bruno explosion site

In San Bruno, some neighbors are calling for a ban on fireworks near the Glenview subdivision -- the scene of last fall's deadly natural gas explosion and fire.

The natural gas fire killed eight people and burned down 38 homes in the Glenview neighborhood. Now all that's left is a windy grassland -- which could be ignited by errant fireworks. San Bruno is one of two cities in San Mateo County that allow so-called safe and sane fireworks. Fire officials say it's already illegal to use the safe and sane variety on vacant lots. They are more worried about the illegal variety.
