Popular 300-year-old tree may get moved

A new idea was proposed Thursday to try and save a 300-year-old oak tree in Menlo Park.

The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission says it needs to cut down the tree to make room for a new pipeline that will transport water from the Hetch Hetchy reservoir to the Bay Area.

Neighbors met again Thursday and are now considering another option: to uproot the tree and move it to a different location.

The SFPUC was scheduled to cut down the tree nearly a month ago.
