This is definitely a switch -- the Federal Government wants to give you money! There are thousands of old forgotten savings bonds and one of them could be yours.
The U.S. Treasury Department is working hard to help connect consumers with $16 billion worth of unclaimed bonds. Many date back to the 1950s when there was such a big push to sell savings bonds that they became part of American culture.
One woman recently cashed in an old $50 bond and received a big payout of $521. A Treasury Department volunteer helped her find it and felt rewarded to help the woman get her money.
