An aspiring herpetologist from Daly City has helped name one of the newest residents at the California Academy of Sciences.

Bronwyn Miguel, 9, won the online Name the Snake contest co-sponsored by ABC7 and the academy to name an 18-foot-long, reticulated python.

Reticulated pythons live in Southeast Asia and that helped Bronwyn come up with the winning name.

"I looked it up online when I was looking up Burmese girl names and then I found Kirana," said.

Bronwyn will also get the opportunity to take a behind-the-scenes tour at the academy to see how the staff takes care of exotic reptiles, fish and other creatures from around the world.
