Wednesday morning, volunteers trimmed bushes, cleared paths and even dug holes for exercise stations at Candlestick Point State Recreation Area, an open space that rims the 49ers stadium.
Park rangers depend more and more on people from the community to perform these tasks because of severe budget cuts.
"We're so short staffed now, we have such a long project list that there would be a huge delay and I don't know when we would be able to get to things. This is a big help to the parks and to the public that wants to enjoy the parks," said supervising ranger Ann Menegucci.
Efforts like these will become even more critical if the state cuts off all funding next July for Candlestick Point and 69 other state parks. If you're interested in volunteering, go to the California State Parks Foundation website here.
