'Times Square Kiss' sculpture goes on display

ALAMEDA, Calif.

A sculpture of the famous "Times Square Kiss" was put on display Friday at the USS Hornet Museum in Alameda. It is a reproduction of the 25-foot statue that temporarily stood in New York's Times Square for an anniversary of the event in August 2010, where the iconic photograph was taken on VJ Day -- Aug. 14, 1945 -- as the U.S. celebrated the end of World War II.

A moment fondly remembered by what came to be known as "the greatest generation."

You can see the 6-foot sculpture on the Hornet this weekend and it will be on display at Pier 45 in San Francisco on Aug. 6 and 7.

It's touring the country to promote the second Sunday in August as "Spirit of 45 Day" to honor the greatest generation.
