Health officials are offering free whooping cough vaccinations in Santa Cruz for middle and high school students this week.

A new California law requires students entering seventh through 12th grades to get the vaccination before school begins.

The county will offer six free clinics for families in the month of August.

The first clinic will be held Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Pajaro Unified School District in Watsonville.
