Teachers in one Contra Costa County school district will take a crucial vote today that could result in a longer day for kids at three schools.

Elected representatives in the Mount Diablo teachers' union will vote on a deal with the district to lengthen the school day by one hour at Bel Air, Rio Vista and Shore Acres schools in Bay Point.

The federal government requires the added instruction time for the district to get nearly $9 million in education reform grants the next two years.
