People began lining up around midnight on Friday to be among the first people inside when the doors opened at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Some waited for hours and said it was about time for Apple to come to Berkeley.
Before the store opened, the closest retail store for Apple was in Emeryville.
Nearby restaurants benefitted from the grand opening of the store, with crowds filling up all the tables after browsing through the new store.
