There were some frightening moments at a Southern California McDonalds, where staff rushed customers out just before a gas explosion and fire destroyed the building.

The explosion brought down the roof of this restaurant in Encinitas, in San Diego County.

The fire marshal says moments before, kitchen workers smelled gas, and ordered customers to leave. Everyone got out safely.

The damage is estimated at $500,000 to $700,000.
