Gregory Colver, 21, was convicted on July 18 of one felony count of child endangerment and one felony count of cruelty to a child, with the special enhancement of causing great bodily injury.
He was accused of holding his son inside a hot oven and dangling him over the oven rack on Dec. 28, 2010 in an attempt to teach him about the dangers of hot surfaces.
Colver and his girlfriend, the boy's mother, originally claimed that the boy had turned the oven on and fallen into the racks on his own. Investigators became suspicious when details of the couple's story didn't match up and doctors said the horizontal and vertical burns weren't consistent with the accident Colver had described.
Colver was arrested on Dec. 30, and allegedly confessed to police that he had been trying to teach his son a lesson by holding him inside the oven. He later retracted the confession.
Colver was given credit for 266 days of time served, according to a San Mateo County Superior Court clerk. He is currently in custody.
