Second Harvest Food Bank kicks off fundraising drive

SAN MATEO, Calif.

A food drive kicked off Wednesday morning, with some famous faces volunteering their time to bring awareness to hunger.

San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York, offensive guard Guy McIntyre, CEO of tech giant Brocade Mike Klayko and other prominent people were on-hand to celebrate the beginning of the food bank.

Those big names are hoping to bring attention to hunger as the holidays approach.

One in four people in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties is affected by hunger, with one in ten people receiving food from Second Harvest.

That food has to come from somewhere, and that's where the community comes in.

Second Harvest feeds 250,000 clients every month, with half of the food being fresh produce.

The goal for 2011 is to have $11.3 million and 1.6 million pounds of food.
