Heroes honored for saving man from burning car

SAN FRANCISCO

Mayor Ed Lee honored three men and a police officer for risking their own lives to save a suspected drunk driver whose car burst into flames. The crash happened south of Market Street one week ago.

Good Samaritan Justin Taylor calls the experience surreal.

"There's right, there's wrong, and you either dive in and become a part of it and you get to help somebody or you stand back and you wait," he said. "And I got a chance to make that decision."

The four men were given certificates of appreciation for their bravery.

San Francisco Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White went so far as to publicly offer the three Good Samaritans jobs, saying the fire department could use more heroes like them because the driver of that burning car would have likely perished in the flames if not for their actions.
