The U.S. Military has just made its largest-ever order for biofuel and half of it will come from a Bay Area company.

The Pentagon is buying 450,000 gallons of renewable fuel for Navy ships and planes, in an effort to go green. Half the fuel comes from South San Francisco-based Solazyme, which makes biodiesel from algae.

The other half is from a Louisiana company called Dynamic Fuels, which uses used cooking oil. The deal is worth $12 million.
